Test Format: IELTS Life Skills B1
Total Duration: 22-25 Minutes
The test consists of two main phases — Phase 1 and Phase 2. The objective is to assess your ability to communicate in English on a variety of everyday topics, understand spoken English in different contexts, and engage in longer, more complex conversations than in the A1 level.
Phase 2: Listening and Responding to Information
2b: Extended Discussion on a Given Topic
Duration: 6-7 minutes
In Phase 2b, you and your partner will be given a specific topic to discuss. The examiner will provide a scenario or situation to discuss, and you will need to engage in an extended conversation with your partner about the topic.
Examples of topics could include:
Health and well-being
Technology and its impact
Transport and the environment
The conversation will involve:
Exchanging ideas and opinions on the topic.
Responding to your partner's questions.
Expressing your views and providing more details on your opinions.
The examiner may ask follow-up questions to ensure you’re able to engage in a more in-depth conversation.
This section tests your ability to sustain a longer conversation, use appropriate vocabulary, express opinions, and engage actively in dialogue.
